©Providing ministry, sacraments and oversight which we can receive with confidence.

The Bishop of Beverley, The Rt. Revd. Stephen Race

Welcome to The Society under the patronage of Saint Wilfrid and Saint Hilda in the Church of England Diocese of Newcastle.

We are a group of Anglo-Catholic parishes that seek to proclaim the Catholic Faith as the Church of England has traditionally received it. Under the patronage of two great northern missionary saints, Wilfrid and Hilda, we aim to do this through events and services, prayer and mutual support.

You can find more about us, our parishes and what we are doing in the Diocese by exploring this website. The Society is a national organisation and is funded by Forward in Faith. For more information follow the links on the various pages.

The Society is an ecclesial body, led by a Council of Bishops. The purposes of the Society are:

to promote and maintain catholic teaching and practice within the Church of England
to provide episcopal oversight to which churches, institutions and individuals will freely submit themselves
to guarantee a ministry in the historic apostolic succession in which they can have confidence.

The Five Guiding Principles provide the basis on which The Society works within The Church of England.

The parishes of The Society enjoy a relationship of full communion not only with the relevant bishop of The Society but also with all the other parishes of The Society.

The Society is not a membership organization. It is supported and financed by Forward in Faith and administered by its Director. Those who support the aims of The Society are asked to support its work by joining Forward in Faith. Further information about the relationship between The Society and Forward in Faith is available here.
